Artist Statement 2023

Tree Protection Zone #1, #2 & #3 are three small acrylic works on wood. They take inspiration from recent conversations about trees, and text scrawled on street tree hoardings near the artist’s home. These works play as post-it-notes in defence of the natural world, snapshots of green space abstracted, found in and around trees and construction sites

One work suggests lichen found on tree trunks in winter, another a dappled canopy, and the final of the three, depicts an abstracted forest protected by safety flags.

The title of Green’s work also hints at the supportive nature of the Tree Veneration Society and the role of the gallery space itself, when one considers environmental action.
