Trees as part of the natural world play an important in my oeuvre, from the remembered sacred baobab trees in southern Africa to the amazing mangroves and She Oakes along the Cooks River where I live and walk every day. These works ask questions about the essence of who we are as living beings in symbiosis with the world, through references both intensely personal and universally mythical. This series of ceramic People Trees are an homage to the Cooks river, its ecology, unique personality and its sentient trees. They are embodiments of a visceral landscape, the living river, its trees and its ecological family.
