Participants are invited to pay homage to both art and nature through this act of creating a light filtering ‘canopy’. Inspired by the Japanese word ‘Komorebi’ – which literally means sunlight filtering through leaves – we trace the outline of real gum leaves, a strong national icon, directly onto clear plastic. They are coloured, cut and added to a collage arrangement on a glass panel which allows the light to filter through and the shadows, patterns and colour come to life – an artificial komorebi that honours both the artistic process that made it as well as the nature that it imitates.
