Booberella, Beams Festival, 2014

Elizabeth Gervay

A large umbrella structure covered in delightfully coloured soft sculptures – “boobs”, that shades and protects a tree. The umbrella structure seems to weightlessly bear the nurturing “boobs” – it has the purpose of utopia – trees will flourish. The soft sculptures are varied but similar as in the individuals that make up a community. Joined together under the unity of one – Booberella Utopia can exists. The work represents the constant need to nurture, care and shelter what is preciousness – Utopia must call to mind that in even in the urban human community obsession of “moving forward”, adding only cement is not the answer to Utopia.
