Artists Statement 2019
Elizabeth is the youngest and beloved daughter of Veronika Sipos and Zoltan Gervay, refugees from war torn Europe. Australia adopted them in 1949 and the family thrived.
Australia, where a hand-shake was a hand-shake, and vegemite sandwiches were accompanied by Hungarian cabbage rolls.
On Sundays, reprieved from the Holden factory and piece making of the sewing room , music, art and dance enveloped Elizabeth: Veronika’s violin, Tomas’s piano accordion, Susan’s piano notes and the colourful swirling ribbons of the czardas in her father’s arms.
Elizabeth, accepted her obligations – qualified as a Primary Teacher – establishing a Creative Arts Centre, curating an art exhibition space in Woollahra and by 2015 graduated with a Master of Art. Elizabeth received scholarships supporting her studies in outback Australia, Bhutan and Japan, resulting in applauded exhibitions.
Elizabeth is now immersed in the arts arena working with and within an environmental artist collective (www.treevenerationsociety.com) exhibiting work at Beams Festival Chippendale, Grace Crossing-Smith Art Gallery, Norman Lindsay Gallery, Swap – Ryde Tafe, Marulan Kite Festival, Rudolph Steiner School whilst teaching and running workshops for The Kirribilli Neighbourhood Centre, Arcadia University, Pennsylvania USA, Centennial Parklands, North Sydney Council, Crown St Public School, Sydney Re-Settlement Centre in Auburn, Waverley Council and Rudolph Steiner School (Glenaeon), and conducting art walkabouts in the Paddington Art Precinct, Botanical Gardens and Sydney Harbour Foreshore. Elizabeth also conducts art workshops at Little Acres, an artist retreat 2 hours out of Sydney.
